Day one
This is supposedly day one of my pledge to create something every day.
I’m primarily doing this, as around a year ago I realised that with my current screen time ( mostly social media) I would spend a third of my waking life watching short form content, now surely those 6 hours of screentime would not translate forever, but it was a mildly horrifying though.
After using nextdns to ban myself from social media [1] I figured the job was done, and I had solved my problem. But more issues arose after. Throughout the past year, I’ve read hackernews, watched youtube, read books ( occasionally) - and of course spent a fair amount of time coding. But throughout this process, I haven’t created anything tangible, anything that I can truly be proud of or say that I created with my own hands. So I decided to create this. A shout into the void of todays internet, a pledge to myself, etc etc yada yada that I will spend every day creating at least one thing.
The exact terms of this, I’m unsure of yet, but mantra of “To create or consume” will continue, the overarching theme of this will be creating. Whether that be stupid tutorials of weird coding bugs, coding, etc etc. I pledge that I will create something every day.
The past week, I’ve created this website, and “Watch me write this”, if you scroll to the bottom here, you’ll probably see V1 of this. I say I, as I have spent the last two weeks pondering and thinking too hard about the correct way to create a video of my writing things[2], so yesterday I finally decided rather than wait another however many weeks, I’d use AI to do it for me. It’s a tool, I’ll fine tune it - but the MVP is done and I can actually focus on what I wanted to.
With all of that said, today I:
- Added a highlight post section on the homepage of this website
Yeah, not much but I’ve had a busy day. I did 9 hours at my “real” job, had a very intense two hours of ping pong, and then trained legs at the gym.
Oo Oo I also did the daily leetcode, I’m doing it with a group of friends, and it’s quite fun. Whilst it may not be the most useful skill, I love me some competition.
[1] I actually banned it all day bar mid-day to 6pm, this reduced my usage by around 95% as I usually work during the day, but successfully convinced my monkeybrain that I “still had access”
[2] I primarily code in Go and Rust. Typeshit Javashit ain’t it for me, I suck ass at them at best. I still have no fucking clue why I need a promise to iterate over some stuff, what happened to .forEach
Watch me write this
I’ll explain more of this later, for now take this buggy shite. It’s got the slight issue that I accidentally kept yesterdays history on it! So the first few seconds are testing.
Also no idea why, I’ll have to confer with the clankers but the video is kinda fucked ! I’ll fix it in post….
